Brandon Jackson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Metropolitan Funeral Service - Granby Chapel on Jan. 23, 2026.
Brandon Clay Jackson, Sr., affectionately known as "Bee Jay," age 56, a lifelong resident of Norfolk, Virginia, passed away on January 19, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter O. Jackson. Brandon leaves to cherish his memory his loving children, Brandon C. Jackson, Jr. of Norfolk, Virginia, and Yamina James of Portland, Oregon; his devoted mother, Charlyne "Chase" Jackson of Linwood, New Jersey; his brother, Sulaimaan Mu'min (Bella) of Norfolk; and his sister, Bonita Jackson, also of Norfolk. He shared a particularly close bond with his oldest nephew, DeSean Jamal Jackson (Germany), and took great pride in the Jackson family. Brandon also leaves behind nephews Khalil, Esaias, Austin, Samari, Adien, and one niece, Jordyn, all of whom brought him immense joy. He will also be mourned by his aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends.

A graduate of Maury High School, Class of 1988, Brandon was the Jackson family's first real athlete, playing both varsity football and wrestling. He continued his education at Norfolk State University and Virginia Union University. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Brandon passionately supported his alma mater as well as Old Dominion University and Norfolk State University teams. In basketball, he cheered faithfully for the Los Angeles Lakers, but when it came to football, he was Eagles all the way. Bee Jay was famous for his animated, boisterous play-by-play commentary, often acting as coach from the living room-whether or not anyone else was watching. His friends delighted in his energetic banter, expressive reactions, and constant movement as games unfolded.

Brandon's love of sports began in childhood, playing recreational football with the Vikings of Park Place, Dukes of Larchmont, and then through his high school years. He opted out for playing in college saying to his mother, "You see how big those guys are?" However, he later gave back to the game as a coach when his son signed on with the Dukes, and serving as a coach and manager for the American Youth Football team, the Pedigree Dawgs. Under his leadership, the team won several trophies, and Brandon remained involved until his son, Brandon Jr., aged out of the league.

Second only to sports was Brandon's love for food and cooking. What began as an after-school job during high school at Norfolk's Belmont Restaurant grew into a lifelong passion and profession. He most recently worked at Marriott's SpringHill Suites, located on the Old Dominion University campus adjacent to Chartway Arena-a dream setting that allowed him to combine his love of food and sports. For family and friends' gatherings, cookouts, and celebrations, Brandon was always the first call. If he showed up unassigned, he inevitably took charge-especially at the grill and as the DJ.

Above all, Brandon was the life of the party. Boisterous, gregarious, and endlessly entertaining, he was a gifted storyteller and natural comedian. Wherever he went, laughter followed. His presence filled rooms, and his voice could never be missed.

Brandon Clay Jackson, Sr. leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love that will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and adored him. We love you, B2DAJ!
