Brandon Jay Young passed away on September 19, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, MN, at the age of 61. He was born to Jack and Pauline (Reineccius) Young on November 13, 1959, in Princeton. Brandon graduated from Forest Lake High School in 1978 and Lakewood/Century College in 1986 with an AA degree in Criminal Justice. He went on to employment with the Lino Lakes Police Department as a part-time officer in 1987 and then full-time in 1989.
Brandon retired from his career in law enforcement in July of 2012 and took a part-time position with Rice Lake Elementary School, continuing to work with area youth as he had done for many years. He was a DARE instructor and enjoyed working with kids. During his career he faced the common dangers given to his profession but always with courage, compassion, and professionalism. Brandon obtained many commendations and recognitions during his career. He also worked at the Safeway Driving School in Blaine, where he was a driver's training instructor.
Brandon had an extraordinary musical talent, including being able to successfully play any instrument that was handed to him. He would always bring his guitar to family gatherings and would take requests to play and sing whatever he was asked. He had a special way of including everyone in his love of music, young and old, he knew your song. Most recently, Brandon performed with the band, Dakota Clover.
He also recorded several music CDs including a Christian CD called "STAND." In high school, Brandon would play concerts for his classmates which typically included the entire John Denver library of songs, amongst others. Brandon rubbed elbows with several famous names in the music industry who encouraged him to pursue his dream, one of them being Johnny Cash. Brandon loved hunting, fishing, archery, camping, and just being with friends and family. He loved to ride his motorcycle and had been involved with the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club.
He married Jacquelyn Lee Roden on October 6, 1985. They enjoyed a fun-filled life with lots of love and laughter until Jackie passed away on October 23, 2005, after 20 years of marriage.
Brandon is survived by his children, Tara Young, Ryan Young, and Jennifer Dolan; four grandchildren, Quintin, Elise, Kara, and Lacey; brothers, Brian Young, Jeffrey Young (Deb), and Darin Young (Gina); sister, Susan Shold (Brian); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacquelyn; and his parents, Jack and Pauline Young.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 1, 2021, at Christ Gospel Church, 654 119th Avenue NE, Blaine, MN. Mr. Young often read to our son's class when he was in 1st grade at Rice Lake Elementary. Our son would come home and share how fun it was to listen to Mr. Young with his many character voices and especially when he brought his guitar along and sang. He often read Hank The Cowdog books and our son went on to read nearly all 77 in the series. Mr. Young brought books to life and we are grateful for the gifts he shared with students. We send our prayers to his family and loved ones.

Brandon has been a friend/client for many years and will be greatly missed be everyone who knew him. When life provided him a new challenge or hurdle, Brandon always continued with his positive attitude and laughter. My thoughts and prayers to the entire family. RIP.

Brandon´s family, and mine were friends, attended the same church, Newport United Methodist Church in Newport. Brandon and I were classmates in our primary school days at Pullman Elementary in St Paul Park and then, later on in high school at Forest Lake High School graduates of the Class of 1978. Always a good guy, wearin a white hat when one was nearby. Chased away a bully for me at SPP. And he taught me how to play hockey on a game board that had plastic men. I don´t remember scoring, ever, but at least we were playmates, too. He was one of a kind.
R.I.P. brother. See you there or in the air.

I haven't seen Brandon in about 35 years... I knew him through the Young Life ministry in Forest Lake when he was a kid...always a fun guy with alot of musical talent ( a killer voice in those days)...Wish I could/would have known him in adulthood... sounds like his faith remained important to him throughout life... A life well-lived!

my heart is sad for all of you. I know he is with the Lord. I had the honor to take care of him and was able to pray with him. He is one of those patients you will always remember.
