Brenda Newsome Brewer of South Chesterfield, VA, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, after gracing us with 84 wonderful years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar, and Viola Newsom; birth mother, Dorothy Nelms; and brothers, Billy James, Paul Douglas and Joe.
She is survived by her lifelong loving friend of 54 years, Brenda Steele; sisters, Betty Anderson, Barbara Noell, and Sheree Eagon; half-brothers, Ryan and Larry Peters. Though she was never blessed with children of her own, she loved Josh and Nick Steele as if they were her sons. She also leaves behind nephews, Scott, Andy Shawn Anderson, and Troy Noell; nieces Tina Neal, Sylvie, and Macie Noell. A lifelong friend to Mike Steele, Sr. She considered the entire Steele family to be her own. She had numerous great nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly.
She was employed at American Filtrona for 30 years, from May 15, 1974, to May 15, 2004. A proud lifelong member of the NRA and a devoted member of Walthall Baptist Church, she lived a life grounded in faith and community. In her active years, she found great joy in the outdoors - hunting, fishing, and traveling whenever she could.
Her family will celebrate her life on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home, 2033 Boulevard. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025 at Walthall Baptist Church, 14001 Woods Edge Rd, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park, with a reception to follow back at church. Online condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
