Jefferson Brent Clark, known to friends and family as "Brent,” passed away on June 20, 2025, in Glen Burnie, Maryland, at the age of 76. He was born on December 13, 1948, in Baltimore, Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley and Marbury Clark.
He is survived by Mary Alice Clark, his wife of 55 years, their children, Joshua Clark, Matthew Clark, and Molly McFarland; his sisters, Amy Beth Shipley and Stephanie Kim Clark; his daughters-in-law, Christy Clark and Michelle Johnstone Clark; his son-in-law, Adam McFarland; and his grandchildren, Bailey, Pierce, Sophia, Eli, Toby, and Lily.
After graduating from West Virginia University with a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry and Wildlife Management, Brent served in the Washington, DC National Guard, and managed the family businesses Clark Produce and Twin Oaks Farm Market. Later in life, he established By The Cottage Door with his wife Mary Alice, designing, crafting, and selling home and garden decor across the East Coast. Brent's expert craftsmanship extended to his home where he constructed beautiful furniture, millwork, and cabinetry, and to his loved ones through handmade toys and gifts.
Brent was known for his quiet strength and care for his friends and family. He was an even-keeled man with a quick wit and an ever-present sense of humor. He laughed easily and contagiously, making others laugh just as often. He cared deeply for his loved ones, including his beloved dogs, Millie, Morty, and Lenny. When he wasn’t in his woodshop, walking his dogs, or spending time with family, Brent could be found outside. He loved to sail, kayak, ride his bicycle, tend to his tomato plants, and watch birds in his back yard.
Brent was a much loved member of his family, and a stable, supportive, loving presence. He enriched the lives of all who knew him, and he will be remembered for the generosity, humor, and steady compassion that he demonstrated throughout his life.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Brent's life will be held on June 28, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Singleton Funeral and Cremation Services P.A. in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Brent's name may be made to Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum at https://cbmm.org/ OR Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating at https://crabsailing.org/
