Obituary of Brent Alden Slattengren
We grieve the loss of Brent Slattengren, 61, who passed away at his home in Bothell, WA from a massive heart attack on Wednesday, July 26th, 2023.
Brent grew up in Taylors Falls, MN. He enjoyed playing sports with friends, becoming an Eagle Scout, and working on the farm with his kid brother. He attended the University of Minnesota, earning a degree in geology. He met his future-wife, Kathy, on a cross-country ski trip in the Boundary Waters. They later began their married life together in Seattle, WA in 1987, where Brent pursued a degree in paleontology at the University of Washington.
Following the birth of his two children, Brent became a loving and supportive stay-at-home dad. He later found a passion in life for teaching and pursued his Master's in Education. His commitment to his students became a defining part of his life, and he left a large part of himself at University Prep where he taught 8th grade science and uplifted countless individuals. He was also known to cause occasional commotion due to lost snakes or setting off fire alarms.
Brent was always someone who enjoyed life to the fullest. During the summers he loved to challenge himself to grow the biggest, most beautiful produce, build decks with friends, and voraciously consume sci-fi books down by the river. Brent was also a fantastic cook who loved to create wonderful meals for friends and family. He was a larger than life presence that would lift others up with his wildly engaging stories, ability to listen and provide guidance, and with his contagious laugh.
Brent is survived by his wife Kathy, children Kristie (Kevin) and Blake, brother Darryl, and father Linn.
He is preceded by his mother Helen.
