Brett Layne Bares, 68, of Carlyss, passed away on August 1, 2023. Brett was raised in Carlyss and was a graduate of Sulphur High School. He was known by many as the "cable guy" for his 47 years of service at Cameron Communications. He was an avid fisherman who loved everyone he met. Brett had a true gift for hospitality and made everyone feel welcome and loved. Brett was the life of the party and loved to listen to music in his barn for Thursday Night Barn Night which was enjoyed by him and his friends and family. Brett will be remembered for his red boots, red barn, red trucks, red boat, but most of all, for his heart of gold.
Brett is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Susan Bares; two daughters, Brandi Layne Trahan and husband Derrick and Amber Gail Seaford and husband, Doug; his grandchildren, Adyson Trahan, Brock Layne Trahan, Owen Trahan, Finley Seaford, Colette Seaford and Kenna Seaford; his mother, Dorothy Bares; his siblings, Michael Roy Bares, Jackie Bares, Jenny Griffin, Belle Anna Trahan and Joanie Faye Armentor. He is preceded in death by his father, Sam Bares; and one sister, Rhonda Gail Bares.
Services for Brett will be held on Monday, August 7, 2023, at 10 AM at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Hackberry Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Johnson and Robison Funeral Home from 12 PM to 8 PM and will resume on Monday morning from 8 AM until the time of service.
Pallbearers will be Judd Bares, Buddy Fuselier, Rocky Bill Cunningham, Brady Cunningham, Doug Seaford and Derrick Trahan. Honorary pallbearers will be Brock Layne Trahan, Owen Trahan and Finley James Seaford.
