It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brett William Grimsley, age 60, of Rocky Ford, who departed this life on May 13, 2025.
Brett was born in Rocky Ford, to James and Virginia (Cooper) Grimsley. A proud graduate of Rocky Ford High School, Class of 1983, Brett went on to study at Colorado State University and McCook Community College, where he pursued a degree in agronomy. He dedicated his life to being a steward of the land and upholding the values deeply rooted in agriculture.
In 2012, Brett married the love of his life, Lorna Mae, and together they built a home filled with warmth, strength, and shared dreams.
Brett was known for his sharp wit and an unforgettable gift for storytelling. Whether seated around a dinner table or working out in the fields, he had a way of turning everyday moments into tales that brought laughter, wisdom, and a deep sense of connection. His stories-some tall, most true-will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to hear them.
Brett was a man of quiet integrity, deep commitment to his family, and enduring ties to the community he called home. His humor, hard work, and loyalty touched the lives of many.
Brett was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James and Virginia Grimsley. He is survived by his wife, Lorna Mae Grimsley of Rocky Ford; his daughter, Shayla Honebein (Justin Skahill) of Brush; his brother, Sam (Kim) Grimsley of Georgetown, TX; his nephew, Jay Grimsley of Lubbock, TX, his aunt, Alice Deatherage of Las Animas; his cousin, Scott Deatherage and family of Cheney, WA ; and his cousin, Glen Grimsley, along with Glen's family of El Paso, TX..
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Rocky Ford Elks Lodge #1147, 301 N. 9th St., Rocky Ford, CO 81067, or to the Rocky Ford High School FFA, 100 W Washington Ave, Rocky Ford, CO 81067, in honor of Brett's lifelong passion for agriculture and community.
Brett will be dearly missed and fondly remembered for his love, his laughter, and the stories that will echo for years to come.
