Brett Mark Montague, 39, passed away at home on Sunday, June 30, 2025. Born on November 22, 1985, at Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Utah, Brett was the oldest of four brothers and a vibrant presence in the lives of all who knew him.
Brett is survived by his three beloved children-Mason, Cash, and Luke-who were the light of his life and his proudest legacy. He is also survived by his mother Kathryn, his grandmother Stella Watson, his brothers-Gregory Scott Montague, Christopher Calvin Montague, and Mark Alexander Montague, and his half-sisters-Nicole Rasmussen, Kristen Montague, and Jenae Montague Borner. He was preceded in death by his father, Mark Montague, who passed away in January of this year.
From an early age, Brett's sharp mind and quick wit set him apart. He had a gift for sarcasm, a passion for poking fun, and a love for deep, spirited conversations. He challenged those around him to question everything and never accept anything at face value.
A proud competitor of Alta High School, Brett was a fierce adversary and multi-talented student. He played on the varsity lacrosse team and helped lead them to a state championship. He also played football, joined the debate team, and competed in the Academic Decathlon. His intelligence, curiosity, and confidence made him a natural leader and an unforgettable teammate.
Brett had a magnetic personality and an extraordinary ability to connect with people. Whether in a sales room, a casual conversation, or a spirited debate, he could talk to anyone about anything and leave a lasting impression. He was a natural storyteller, always ready with a joke, a pun, or a playful jab that would light up the room.
Later in life, Brett fully embraced his most meaningful role-being a father. With his kids, he was silly, joyful, and endlessly entertaining. He cherished their laughter and made sure their lives were full of it.
Growing up, Brett shared a special bond with his brothers. They spent countless hours together wrestling, roughhousing, getting into all sorts of mischief, and spending countless nights staying up playing video games and sharing inside jokes. Those memories-of laughter, connection, and brotherhood-will stay with us forever.
Brett will be remembered for his brilliant mind, his bold spirit, his humor, and most of all, the love he had for his family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his voice, laughter, and lessons will echo in our hearts.
The funeral will take place on Monday, July 7, at 10:30 AM at the Crescent 21st Wardhouse, 11570 South Wasatch Blvd., Sandy, with a viewing prior from 9:30-10:15 AM. Interment will be at Riverton City Cemetery.
