Brett David Schoolcraft, 63, of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025 in his home surrounded by family. Born on February, 21, 1962, in Washington, MO to John and Janet Schoolcraft. Brett was a hardworking, family man who enjoyed the great outdoors.
Brett grew up in Sullivan where he attended school as a child. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School and a proud member of the class of 1980 "JO Officers". He met Kelley Hartzell during her freshman year and the two dated throughout her high school years. Kelley and Brett were married on April 7th, 1984, after Kelley finished one semester of East Central College. Brett was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, a love that was passed on to him and his three brothers from their father, John. Brett shared this love with his sons Dustin and Derek and many others. He didn't just teach the skills of hunting and fishing, but the importance of conservation of the great outdoors so generations to come could enjoy it. Brett was devoted to his family, they spent countless hours camping and he loved riding on his jet boat, especially at the family's favorite spot, Stockton Lake in southwest Missouri.
Brett and Kelley bought the house he grew up in and raised their two sons Dustin and Derek on Cherry Street. Brett worked 33 years at Kemira Water Solutions in St. Louis. His whole career he worked 12 hour shifts, plus 2 hours of driving, so he could provide for his family. He instilled a love of nature in his sons for not just hunting game, but the secrets of finding morel mushrooms. Despite his health failing over the last several months, Brett still enjoyed camping and even riding his E-bike with Kelley.
Brett is survived by his loving wife, Kelley Schoolcraft; his two sons: Dustin of Sullivan, Missouri and Derek Schoolcraft of Mt. Vernon, Washington; three brothers: Steven Schoolcraft and wife, Sheilah of Washington, MO, Kevin Schoolcraft and wife, Cindy, of Fulton, MO, and Chris Schoolcraft of Fulton, MO; precious granddaughter, Kaylee Schoolcraft of Union, MO, and other relatives and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Janet (Baker) Schoolcraft.
