Brian Fay Obituary

Published by Lane Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Service - Canfield Chapel on Feb. 8, 2015.
Brian Douglas Anthony Fay, 44, passed away Feb. 8, 2015, in Cleveland. He was born Aug. 19, 1970, in Cleveland, son of Arthur and Terri Fay (Steele). Brian was raised in Austintown and graduated from Fitch High School in 1988. He took an interest in playing drums from the time he was four and really shined in high school, where he received many music awards and accolades. Brian also enjoyed photography and received a gold medal in a scholastic art competition, for which he received a letter of congratulations from the Ohio House of Representatives, and the Ohio Senate as well. Brian also started creating music for the local band he was in. After graduation, Brian moved to Columbus. While employed with Sam Ash and Coyle Music, Brian started playing drums, and word quickly got out about his excellent drumming and he was pursued by many bands. He performed with Shakerman from 1996 to 2000, and toured about 20 states through the Midwest, East Coast and South, playing up to 200 shows a year. Shakerman, with Brian at the drumming position, opened up for many well-known groups. He was a co-writer and co-producer for his bands album "Shakerman Live." He also co-wrote and co-produced several other non-released tracks with this band and with the members of this group. At this time, he also was a studio musician for a couple of studios in town. After exhausting all his avenues in Columbus, Brian then moved to New York. Brian worked in New York in the television industry for nearly eight years at INDEMAND. He worked his way up from scheduling and coordination to producer. Brian produced thousands of promos for television and was essential in proving that in-house editing was possible. Brian was a natural at audio editing and mixing for broadcast, which was a perfect fit for him. He composed the theme song for "Howard TV!," Howard Stern's television network. He did full sound design and music for the credits of "A retrospective look back the events of 9/11," at "The Howard Stern Show," among many other creative projects. Brian also worked on many music and video projects outside of his day work. Some were professional endeavors and some were labors of love. He was in a band called The Answer, who traveled extensively and sold over 20, 000 albums, had radio play and played with other well-known bands. On his local turf, in New York, they were the house band at the already legendary Snitch and played at CBGB's. Brian is survived by his father, Arthur Fay of Austintown; mother Terri Fay (Steele) of Ocala, Fla.; sister Jacci Fay Casanova and husband Oscar of Deltona, Fla.; along with his niece, Nohemi and nephew Oscar. There will be no calling hours or services. Instead, a celebration of life event may take place in the near future. Information will be provided by the family.
