NEW BERLIN – Passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Monday, November 28, 2022 at the age of 60. Devoted husband to Laura (nee Ritchie). Amazing dad to Allan, Ashley Diedrich and Alex Diedrich. Caring Papa to Ayden. Loving brother to Laurie (Dave) Norris-King, Susan Richards, Greg Gilman and Tom (Julie) Cattoi. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents Don and Leona (Pat) McDermott. His brother Randy Gilman and sister Donna McDermott.

A visitation will be held Sunday, December 4th, from 3-5pm at Heritage Funeral Home – New Berlin, followed by a prayer service at 5. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 5th, at 10am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton (12700 W. Howard Ave. New Berlin). Interment will immediately follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery – Milwaukee.

Brian was a graduate of Waukesha South, class of 1980. He served as a police officer in St. Croix USVI for 5 years. He then returned to the New Berlin area, finished his bachelor's degree, and began his career at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company which he worked at for over 26 years, retiring in 2021.

Brian was a fun and devoted family man. He could often be found boating, fixing anything he could, biking, traveling, and cooking. Brian took great joy and pride in being a Boy Scout leader and raising 2 Eagle Scouts and was a diehard Packer fan! One of Brian's greatest joys was being a Papa.

Brian had many achievements in life a few of which included: completing 5 triathlons and being a medal winner in 3 of those 5, obtaining a CPCU designation, he was the president of the Milwaukee Chapter of the CPCU Society.

Brian will be remembered as caring, fun loving, hardworking and the man that was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.

Dear Laura & family, I was so sad to hear of Brian's passing. He was too young & so many things yet to do together. It's terribly sad, and yet, I know you as a strongly spiritual person, Laura, so allow that Spirit to strengthen your beliefs, allow God to strengthen you, & allow Christ to comfort you.
Sent with love & respect, sadness & joy,
Mary Nehrling
