Edward Gilman, age 89, of Erie, formerly of Upper St. Clair and Flagstaff, Arizona, passed away on August 26, 2025, at The Residence at Presque Isle. He was born on July 26, 1936, in Bronx, NY, a son of the late George and Nettie Tchaikovsky Gittleman.

He grew up in Brooklyn NY, graduating from James Madison High School in 1954. Upon graduation from St. John's College in 1958, he became a pharmacist and practiced for 8 years, before entering medical school at the University of Gent in Belgium in 1966. He served his residency in radiology at Allegheny General and then retired from McKeesport Hospital after 26 years of service. In January 1999, Ed retired from medicine, moved to Sedona, Arizona, and returned to his roots as a pharmacist.

He enjoyed the outdoors by hiking and skiing, especially through the red rocks in Sedona. He loved taking his boys to sporting events. He was a diehard fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers, surviving the heartbreaking move to Los Angeles in 1958. He also followed all the Pittsburgh sports teams closely, finding it extraordinarily difficult to stay seated when watching the Steelers and adding his own critical review of every play. Further, there was not a hockey game he did not like. Importantly, Ed suffered from the affliction of Porsche Fever, much to the chagrin of his first wife, Marilyn, but to the joy of his sons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Neil Gilman, his wife, Barbara Gilman, former wife, Marilyn Gilman (the mother of his children), and a brother, Jay Gittleman.

He is survived by two sons, Judge Gary and his wife, Kathy Emery, of Canonsburg and Dr. Steven and his wife Julia of Erie, PA; five grandchildren: George, Ian (Margot), Hannah (Max Sebald), Abigail (Carolyn Seneca), and Samuel Gilman; sister-in-law Marsha Gittleman and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to be held at a later date. Local arrangements entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc. Downtown, 602 W. 10th Street, Erie.

Yesterday

Ed was such an incredible person and aspirational person, he had so many stories and so many great memories to share, I enjoyed spending time with Dr.Gilman, and it was such a pleasure to have such a lovely person in my life even though it was a short period of time. Prayers to his wonderful sons and family, you are in my prayers!
