Brian Jeffery Kerns, born April 25, 1949, passed unexpectedly, but peacefully, at home in Anacortes, WA, on May 5, 2023.
Brian was born and raised in Salem, Oregon. He joined the Oregon State Police and worked as a patrol officer before becoming a latent fingerprint examiner. He served in Springfield, Florence, Salem, and Medford, Oregon. Brian was nationally recognized for his expertise as a fingerprint examiner and was highly sought after by numerous agencies. He retired in 2003 after 25 years of service. He also served as a fingerprint examiner for the Jackson County Sheriff's Office for several years prior to moving to Anacortes in 2020 to be closer to their daughter.
Brian married Nicki in 1977. Together they raised their daughter, Kristen. In his younger years, Brian enjoyed steelhead fishing and elk hunting. Brian had many interests including bird watching, nature, photography, Mariners baseball, ferry rides, and dogs. Brian was the world's best father and a big kid at heart.
Brian leaves behind numerous family and friends. He is preceded in death by his deeply cherished corgi, Cupcake. No service is planned. Instead, please celebrate Brian by watching a funny movie, enjoying some good chocolate, or giving a pup some extra belly rubs. Our lives are infinitely richer for having Brian in it.
