HAM Radio Operator Brian S. Langdon, 71, of Malone made his last "73" (best regards) on April 9, 2025 in Malone after a courageous battle with cancer.
Brian was born on June 6, 1953 to Gerald K. and the late Joyce E. (Gardiner) Langdon in Malone. He dreamed of and aspired to be a fireman from an early age. He graduated from Franklin Academy in 1973 and then went to Auburn Institute of Technology and obtained his certification as an electrician. Brian then went on to North Country Community College with the thoughts of getting his LPN, but falling in love with the health care field, went on to become a RN, earning an associate's degree in Emergency Management. While in college Brian became a EMT in 1973, serving both commercially and voluntarily for local rescue squads. Brian began his community service career with the Owls Head, Mountain View fire departments from 1975 to 1981. On January 21, 1982 Brian became a firefighter for the Malone Call Firemen while also working for Langdon Oil Company as a utility service technician. During his years of community service with the Malone Call Firemen, Brian held many committee positions to include secretary and vice president. Later he became the Deputy Fire Coordinator for Franklin County for Communications and 911. In 1985 Brian went to work at Alice Hyde Medical Center as a Registered Nurse, where he ultimately became the night nursing supervisor. In 1995 Brian became involved in the political field and was elected Franklin County Coroner, which he held until his passing. Brian over his adulthood held many titles and offices in Malone and Franklin County. He was the chairman of the Board of Directors of the former Franklin County Chapter of the American Red Cross, chief of the Malone Rescue for 6 years, and chairman of Franklin County EMS Association for 3 years. Brian was also a member of the New York State Fire Chiefs Association, the New York State Committee of Communications and Fire Technology and a 44 year member of Malone Call Fireman. Brian was appointed to the 4-H Camp Overlook Camp Committee, a member of Malone Lodge of Elks #1303, and a member of and a 3rd Degree Master Mason as chaplain with the Northern Aurora #383 Masons, Ft. Covington, NY. He held various offices in several HAM Radio organizations within the region, and owned and operated 147225 repeater HAM Radio, 6-meter repeater and IRLPNODE repeater. Brian was also a member and active with the Democratic Party serving his community as a Village Trustee from December 2012 to 2014 and again from December 2015 to the present.
Brian is survived by this father, brothers Dana (Alice) Langdon, Steven (Carol) Langdon, David (Dee) Langdon and Mark Langdon, sisters Linda Norcross and Lori (Richard) Larock, all of Malone, NY and many nieces, nephews, Aunts and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother in 2015.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 from 2 to 6 PM at the Frary Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 and the Centenary Methodist Church, 345 West Main Street, Malone beginning at 1 PM with Pastor Rich Hanlon officiating. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery, Malone.
