O'Connell Family Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - EllsworthBrian Gilbert LaPointe, age 68, of Baldwin, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly, surrounded by his loved ones, on January 11, 2026.
Brian was born on September 24, 1957, in Elyria, Ohio, where he attended school until the age of 14. He then spent his high school years in Grand Marais, Minnesota, where he met his best friend, Wayne "CAP," and developed a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors, as well as the simple joys of nature and sports.
Brian was a loving brother to his sister, Peggy Trenary (Paul), and a devoted father to three daughters: Tanya LaPointe (Jeremy), Kristen Gossel (Steve), and Renae Lapointe, as well as his son, Matthew Sayers (Daughter Mylie). He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Cameron Gossel, Ashlan Faber "Nuggie," Taylor Gedatus, Giavonna O'Leary, Londyn O'Leary, and Tatum O'Leary: nieces Debbie and Dawn: ex-wife & long-time friend Lori Ruch: and many loving relatives and friends.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents, Chuck and Bernice LaPointe; his brother, Jeff LaPointe; and his loving friend, Lori Stewart.
His family meant the world to him. He found his greatest joy in watching his grandchildren grow, loving them fiercely and unconditionally. Time spent with family was what he treasured most.
An outdoorsman at heart, Brian loved fishing and could often be found sneaking away on solo fishing excursions, finding peace on the water. He also had a deep love for the city of Cleveland and was a loyal fan of all Cleveland sports teams.
Brian was known for his strong work ethic and versatility. He enjoyed many years working at Andersen Windows, where he developed genuine relationships with Jim and Cheryl Welch, as well as many other coworkers who became close friends. After retirement, he continued serving his community as a maintenance technician at Walmart in New Richmond, WI, having worn many hats throughout his life. Whether you were a coworker, customer, friend, or stranger, Brian treated everyone with kindness, care, and a genuine willingness to help. His warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He will be remembered for his loving heart, his dedication to family, his quiet strength, the annoying police scanner at full volume as he snored away, and the countless lives he touched with his compassion.
Per Brian's wishes, there will be no funeral or burial. Please join us for a celebration of life to honor and show how much we all appreciated him and his warm, loving heart. The gathering will be held at the Phoenix Bar and Grill in Baldwin, Wisconsin, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 12:00–3:00 PM.
