Brian P. Monaghan, age 92, a resident of Wheaton, IL, formerly of
Plainfield, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at his home with his family by his side.
Brian P. Monaghan was born November 15, 1930, in London, England, the son of John P. Monaghan and Alice (nee Griffith) Monaghan. He married Agnes T. Cleary in 1957. They were married for 55 years, prior to her passing in 2012. Brian is survived by four children; Una (Michael) Betti, of Wheaton, IL, Patrick (the late Linda) Sandine) Monaghan, Paul Monaghan and Joan Houdek, and grandchildren, Leah Betti, Rulan Betti, Valerie (Sandine) Jacobs, Sean Monaghan, and Sarah Monaghan, and two great grandchildren, Keegan Jacobs and Kenzie Jacobs. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Rae Monaghan and wife, Agnes (Cleary) Monaghan, two brothers and a sister. He lost his beloved German Shepard Dakota, about a year ago, who was always by his side.
In his younger years, Brian worked as a chef at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London, England, and served in the British Army and the Merchant Marine. When he was 30 years old, he, his wife and three children immigrated to Canada. In 1969, the family moved to the USA and eventually settled in Illinois. He worked in machine manufacturing and was a plant manager prior to his retirement. He was a member of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Plainfield for approximately 17 years and later St. Daniel, the Prophet Catholic Church in Wheaton, after he went to live with his daughter Una and her family. He was active in the Legion of Mary at Saint Mary Immaculate in Plainfield. He also visited Lakewood Nursing home to pray with the residents and deliver communion. He would often take his dog, Dakota, to the nursing home for the residents to enjoy. He was deeply devoted to his faith.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023, 8:30-10:00 AM at Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 15219 S. Joliet Rd. (corner of Routes 30 & 59),
Plainfield, IL.
Services will begin Thursday, 10:00 AM from the funeral home and will proceed to a 10:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 15629 S. Route 59,
Plainfield, IL 60544.
Inurnment will follow at St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery,
Plainfield, IL.
Following the cemetery services, everyone is invited to join the family for a reception Thursday, 12:30 pm at La Dolce Vita, 16108 Illinois Rte 59,
