Brian James Shay, age 67 of Corning, NY passed away at his home on Friday, September 8, 2023. Born October 22, 1955 in North Hornell, NY, he was the son of the late Bonner "Pete" Shay and Alyce M. (Smith) Shay. Brian served in the US Army from 1977 – 1980. He became a self employed contractor in 1989 until he retired. He enjoyed tinkering on things, boating, visiting with friends and kept a very tidy place. Brian was a Mason and a member of the Elkland Moose Lodge #746. He is survived by his daughter, Tera and Michael Smithmen of Corning; a grandson, Carter Smithmen; siblings, Betsy Gleason of Beaufort, SC, Tim (Patti) Shay of Elmira, NY, Mike (Lark) Shay of Donora, Pa, and Peggy (Marty) Shay of Nelson, Pa; aunt and uncle, Louise and Bill Hall of Elkland, PA and several cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Maddie Jane. Private family services will be held at their convenience. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, 199 Water Street, 11th Floor, New York, NY 10038 or Bath VA Medical Center, Attn: CDCE (135), 76 Veterans Dr., Bath, NY 14810.
