Mr. Brian Woodall Shelton, age 77, of Newnan, Georgia, passed away at his home peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2024. He was born in Athens, Georgia, November 27, 1946, to the late William Oliver Shelton and Dorothy Woodall Shelton.
Brian grew up in Macon, Georgia, where he, his older brother Bill and their friends spent their time fishing and riding bikes, scooters and horses. Occasionally, they would let their older sister Brenda tag along, especially since she was the only one with a car and old enough to drive!
After working as an apprentice in the early 70's at Dixie Tool and Die in Riverdale, Georgia, he and his family moved to Miami to join his father Bill, to work at the family airline business, Transair Cargo. While in Miami, he welcomed his son, Craig.
In the late 70's, Brian moved to LaGrange, Georgia, where he and his family opened and operated several Burger King Restaurants including Newnan, LaGrange, Carrollton, Douglasville and Valley, Alabama.
In February of 1992, Brian met the love of his life, Pat, at his restaurant, Harrison's, (named after his son, Craig). That's when the journey of their 32-year love life began. His family expanded to include 5 additional children, Marlo, Monique, Mila, Monee and Lou.
After retiring from the restaurant industry, Brian and Pat moved to Destin, Florida where they opened Flamingo Graphics and provided custom signs, banners and various other merchandise. Later, he returned to Newnan and began working with his sister, Brenda, in the bonding and cellular phone industry. Brian was an entrepreneur and continued working in the commercial and residential renovations industry and the auto industry, just like his father and other members of the family.
By far, Brian's greatest accomplishments were recognized as his relationships with his family and his unwavering dedication to helping others. He and Pat worked tirelessly as active volunteers at One Roof, Habitat for Humanity, Women's First Shelter and their flagship concept, Little Free Pantry, which still today provides food for the needy. Brian also played a vital role in cooking and serving homeless children at the annual Western Fun Day for over 20 years.
Brian spent his life loving others unconditionally. He never said "no" when asked to help, no matter how large or how small the task. As many have said while acknowledging his legacy, "Love like Brian". He was a member of Central Baptist Church, loved the Lord and had a servant's heart. He was truly an angel walking among us.
The funeral service celebrating Brian's life is Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary of Central Baptist Church, 14 W Broad St., in Newnan, with Dr. Joel Richardson and Rev. Matt Sapp officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time at the church.
Brian is survived by his wife, Pat, their 6 children, Craig Shelton of Birmingham, AL, Marlo Fetner (Jimmy) of Roanoke, AL, Monique Adamson of Newnan, GA, Mila Johnston of Newnan, GA, Monee Johnston of Newnan, GA, and Lou Jones-Rodriguez (Kevin) of Ellsworth, ME. He is also survived by his sister, Brenda Shelton Dunn, of Newnan, and brothers, Chris Shelton of Sharpsburg, and Kevin Shelton of Newnan. He has 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
