Bruce Benesh Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Raffeo - DiCecco Memorial Home, Inc. on Oct. 1, 2025.
Dr. Bruce Leonard Benesh passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Virgil Benesh and Ceil (Repka) Benesh.
Bruce's career in medicine began as an EMT, where his calling to help others first took shape. He went on to graduate from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1978, completed his internship at North Shore University Hospital in New York in 1979, and began his psychiatry residency at Sheppard Pratt Hospital in Maryland.
In 1982, Bruce made Pennsylvania his home, completing his residency and fellowship at Norristown State Hospital (NSH) in 1983. Bruce dedicated his career to NSH, serving as a board-certified Psychiatrist and as Director of Admissions and Assistant Director of Residency Training until his retirement. Through his work, Bruce touched countless lives, bringing healing and hope to those in their most vulnerable moments.
Those who knew Bruce remember him as a warm and gentle soul whose compassion and kindness radiated to everyone around him. He possessed the rare gift of making each person feel valued and understood, greeting everyone with his characteristic friendly smile. His genuine care for others extended far beyond his professional life.
Bruce treasured his marriage to his beloved wife, Teodora, and found joy in life's simple pleasures-books, music, and movies. He had fond memories of his cherished tabby cat, Josh, and though he had no children of his own, he was a devoted uncle whose nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart.
Bruce is lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law, Julita, and brothers-in-law, Julian and Enrique (Estela), along with his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Teodora Abesames-Benesh, MD; his older brother, Virgil Raymond Benesh, Jr.; his sisters-in-law, Adriana Naga and Perla (Felix) Moraleda; and his brother-in-law, Benjamin Santos, Esq. Dr. Bruce Benesh's legacy of compassion, dedication, and love will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Mass on Saturday, September 13th at 11:00am at Visitation, BVM Church, 196 N. Trooper Rd, Norristown, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations can be made to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Catholic Extension, EWTN, or Project Smile. Bruce and I were classmates at Charlotte High School in Rochester, New York. He and I were in the same classes throughout high school because we had been recognized, along with others, as academically brighter. Bruce was always a little more quiet, but always a little smarter. He was definitely one of the best people I have ever met. May he rest in peace.
