Bruce Henry Bornheim was born on September 22nd, 1928, in Baltimore Maryland to proud parents Benjamin and Dora Bornheim. The youngest of four boys – brothers Donald, Raymond, and Royce – Bruce grew up in Baltimore. He attended school in Baltimore and enjoyed baseball and sneaking in to watch shows at the Hippodrome Theater. He served in the Marines and received an Honorable Discharge. He met the love of his life living across the street when he was a teenager. Dorothy and Bruce were married in Baltimore in 1948 with all their family and friends in attendance.

Bruce began working as a tile setter for the Avon Tile Company, where he quickly gained the skills to become a Master tile setter in the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union. He had the honor of crafting the White House’s pool house during Ronald Reagan’s time in office as well as laying the tile for the DC Metro. He retired in 1990.

Bruce and Dorothy became parents in 1950 to the first Bornheim girl in over 100 years, their eldest daughter Gail. In 1954 they welcomed their second daughter and middle child, Donna. In 1959 they rounded out the family with their youngest and only son, Dave. The family moved from Baltimore to Glen Burnie in 1962 where Bruce lived in a newly constructed home on Condon Avenue. He lived in the same house until his passing. The Bornheim family made many friends in the neighborhood throughout the years they lived on Condon Avenue. Bruce was also an active member of the Ferndale Methodist church. Bruce kept busy while working for the Bricklayers union, volunteering for his local polling place as an election worker, as well as volunteering for the American Red Cross driving life saving blood products to areas in need.

Bruce and Dorothy welcomed their first grandchild in 1973, Scott Ferrara, quickly followed by Michael Ferrara in 1975. One last grandson, Bryan Bornheim was born in 1986 and two grand-daughters born back-to-back were welcomed in 1989 – Amanda Bornheim and Justine Belschner. Bruce was also the proud great grandfather to five great grandsons: Devan Ferrara, Aiden Holman, Mason Collier, Jacob Bornheim, and Grant Bornheim.

The home on Condon Avenue was host to many special events throughout the years including receptions, christenings, birthdays, and crab dinners. One could always find Bruce at the grill, making iced tea, or eating some peach ice cream. Bruce and Dorothy hosted many Christmas dinners and celebrations for the family. Christmas day ended with a toast, usually with some Jack Daniels, to the new year and for the health of all the family members.

Bruce fondly enjoyed watching and reading about sports including baseball, golf, and Nascar. He was a devoted and enthusiastic Orioles fan which he passed along his love of, to many members of his family. His wife Dorothy even once caught a foul ball at the game. Baseball could always be seen or heard in the Bornheim home throughout the season.

Bruce was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, daughter Donna, and   grandson Scott. Bruce passed away peacefully on October 21st, 2023. His family is at peace knowing that he is safe and comfortable in Heaven with his loved ones.
