Bruce Crompton, 75, of Dartmouth passed away Monday November 20, 2023 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long battle with myelodysplastic syndrome.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Harold and Doris (Choquette) Crompton. He was a graduate of New Bedford High School, Class of 1967, and Bristol Community College, Class of 1970. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve 483rd Engineer Battalion for six years.
Bruce worked at Giusti Baking Company through college and continued working there until being elected Secretary-Treasurer of the Bakery and Confectionery Union, Local 348 in East Providence, RI, serving for four years. He then was employed at J.C. Penney in the North Dartmouth Mall as the building maintenance supervisor for many years until his retirement.
Bruce was very creative and artistic. He loved to draw and paint and his skills were evident in the scrimshaw pieces that he would painstakingly create. He enjoyed all types of music and loved collecting old albums. He was a self-taught harmonica player who enjoyed playing along with the songs on his many albums.
He is survived by his wife, Debra A. (Correia) Crompton; his brothers-in-law, Roger J. Correia and his wife Jean, Gregg S. Correia and his wife Dinara, and Jay C. Correia and his wife Cheryl; and his five nieces and nephews, Julianne, Erinn, Bailey, Kaia, and Cruz Correia.
He was the brother of the late Robert H. Crompton, and grandson of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Bergen) Choquette. He was also predeceased by his mother-in-law, Dolores M. Kessell, who passed away on Saturday November 18th.
The family would like to give thanks to the staff of St. Luke's Hospital and the Southcoast Oncology Clinic for the compassionate care given to Bruce during his illness.
His funeral service and burial in Rural Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
