Vernon Bruce Poe July 10, 1934 - July 18, 2025
Vernon "Bruce" Poe, 91, went to be home with Jesus Christ early in the morning, July 18th.
Bruce was born to the late William and Carrie (Noxsel) Poe, on July 10, 1934 in Newport, Kentucky.
He celebrated 70 years of marriage to the love of his life, Jeannie Miller, in September, 2024. Together they raised four children. As a devoted Christian, he deeply loved and appreciated his family and friends, praying for them often.
When he was old enough to ride a bike, Bruce started selling and delivering newspapers. After graduation from Newport High School, he landed a job with Cincinnati Gas and Electric. He learned a lot there, but moved on to Cincinnati Milling Machine, which later became Milicron. It was a great opportunity where he proudly learned to wire world renowned machinery. You can still find some of these "Cincinnati" stamped machines in use today. Wanting to shorten his commute, he finished his working career at the Kenton County School Board as a maintenance worker for the next seven years. He loved being around the schools, seeing children teaming with life. By this time, he had been blessed with young grandchildren. Oh, the joy of babies! Retiring at age 62 was a good thing. He spent many hours making toys for them and many other handy and beautiful wooden items, including furniture, in his wood shop. He only set up at craft fairs to actually sell items for a short while, as he preferred giving them away to see the recipient's smile. Just a week or two before his last birthday, he loaded his van with all kinds of wooden vases, bowls and games to take to Emerald Trace employees who lovingly helped him recuperate from his previous hospital stay.
(A special thank you to them from the family. You brought him back to us one last time.)
Bruce spent years as a Boy Scout Master, starting with the Cubs, guiding some up to Eagle Scout. He loved teaching survival skills and watching them grow into men who could help others do the same.
Although he had his faults, he admitted when he was wrong and made it right when he could. We must all remember the toothpaste doesn't goes back in the tube once you squeeze it out.
His life's effort was to love God and love people.
Proceeded in death are his mother and father, all six of his siblings - June, Fae, Len, Richard, Dale and Linda; daughter, Carrie and grandson, Michael.
What a reunion in Heaven for him!
Bruce is survived by his lovely wife Jeannie; children - Kim (Dave), Stephen, Rhonda (Kevin); grandchildren - Jennifer (Fred), Krista (Darren), Andrea (Matt), Joel, Carly (Patrick), Amanda (Anthony), Samantha (John); great grandchildren - Isabelle, Macayla, Emily, Riley, Lucas, Anthony, Lucian, Colin, Stephen, Clara Natalie, Zachary and Christopher. And many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews, including those by marriage.
A Celebration of Bruce's Life is planned just before sunset on the evening of September 10, 2025 at Atwood Winery. Open house with light refreshments starting at 5:00pm.
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6
