Lawrence Bruce Rabuffo, “Bruce”, 81 of Hingham, MA passed away on Sunday, April 27, at Southwood Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family. Bruce was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1943, the son of Michael Vincent Rabuffo, and Bernadette Terhune Rabuffo. Bruce attended the Seminary prior to graduating from the Georgetown University Walsh School of Foreign Service in 1964 and later obtained his Graduate Degree at Pace University in 1982. Bruce married his wife, Susan O’Reilly Rabuffo, at the age of 24 in 1967. They remained married until Susan’s passing on April 2, 2025. They were married 57 years.

Early in their marriage Bruce and Susan resided in Scarsdale, NY and then later raised their 3 children in Mahopac, NY. Bruce enjoyed a long career in the Telecommunication industry. He held many Senior Executive positions at The New York Telephone Company, Bellcore and NYNEX. While Head of Operations for NYNEX Cablecomms in the United Kingdom, where he had a 3-year tenure, he oversaw a major project to build a telephone and cable company from scratch. During their time abroad in London, they enjoyed their many travels before they eventually settled in to Hingham in 1995.

After Bruce’s career in telecommunications and retirement in 1997 at the age of 53, he pursued local politics and was very proud of his community in Hingham. He volunteered as Vice Chairman of the Parish Council and was appointed as an alternate member on the Zoning Board of Appeals. He also was Chairman of the Hingham Development and Industrial Commission and in that role, oversaw the complete restoration of Hingham Square. He served 2 terms as Hingham’s Selectman from 2008 to 2014, well known for being fiscally prudent.

Faith was central to Bruce’s life, whether he was teaching CCD classes at the Roman Catholic Church of Saint John the Evangelist in Mahopac, NY, or volunteering at the pre-Cana program at Saint Paul’s Church in Hingham from 2010 through 2023. Bruce remained active in the Hingham community and Saint Paul’s church.

Bruce was a devoted husband and father and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Bruce was a skilled breakfast maker, specializing in Mickey Mouse pancakes, eggs benedict and cinnamon rolls. He also told the best “Super Chicken” stories before bedtime and preached that everyday chores and landscaping would only take “2 minutes” if we all did it together.

Bruce was the beloved husband of Susan Rabuffo, loving father of Tara Rabuffo and her husband, Fernando Motta, of Lancaster, PA, Michael Rabuffo and his wife, Jennifer, of Norwell, and Kate Rabuffo of Boston, and cherished “Pops” to Trey, Bayleigh, Liamh, and the late Ainsleigh. Brother of Michaele Esposito of Burlington, VT, Jeffrey Rabuffo of Madison, CT, Nöel Liuzzi of Albany, NY, and the late Gregory Rabuffo of Rosendale, NY.

He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving family members and friends.

A Mass and Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bruce to Saint Paul’s Church, 147 North Street, Hingham, MA 02043.
