Bruce Saurer

D. Bruce Saurer, age 67, of Orrville, passed away on Friday morning, July 15, 2022, at his residence in Orrville, following a period of declining health.
He was born on August 19, 1954, in Orrville, Ohio, to Richard and Donna (Wolgamot) Saurer and graduated from Orrville High School.
In Bruce's younger years, he was self-employed as a flooring installer. Following his sobriety in 1999, he taught himself how to build computers, set up and manage networks, develop databases, and even front-end web design. He was self-employed and found great joy in working with non-profits in assisting with their technology needs.
Bruce was a very proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 23 years and helped numerous people overcome their struggles. Another passion of his was cooking. He was an incredible cook (chef, really) and was well versed in different cuisines. He was also a musician for most of his life, playing multiple instruments, and singing as lead vocalist in several bands.
Bruce had a very inquisitive nature. He loved to read and research advancements in the technology field. He was often ahead of the curve in studying the newest and latest. He was also very well read and enjoyed studying different philosophical views and ancient wisdom traditions. He also enjoyed great novels (especially the Dune series), and a wide range of biographies. He avidly followed various social commentaries from other well-read and lived souls. Not a day went by that he did not read at least one meditation with Richard Rohr being one of his favorites.
He was extremely quick-witted and known well for his humor, which in turn led him to be so deeply loved by so many people. He also enjoyed gardening and working in the flower beds. Farm-to-table (or seed-to-table) was truly a spiritual experience for him. It brought him a lot of joy to bring plants to life, nurture their growth, and see them make their way into his home and be a part of his culinary prowess.
Bruce's love for life could be easily seen and felt by anyone. All you had to do was look at his bookshelf (or Kindle in his later years), open his spice cabinet, view his recent list of recipes he planned on still making, or see his most recent songs that were added to his music streaming platforms. Yet, the most accurate picture could be seen in those he poured his heart and soul into. He loved and was loved by many.
Surviving are his daughter, Nina (Jon Steward) Saurer of Medina; his beloved grandchildren, Maya, Nick, Nadia, Sean, and Eva; father, Richard Saurer of Orrville; two brothers, Scott and Ric Saurer, both of Orrville; two sisters, Wendy (Randy) Regan of Orrville, and Storm (Michael) Jewett of North Canton; several nieces and nephews; and far too many close friends to name.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Saurer, and sister Dione.
A celebration of Bruce's life is being planned for Thursday, August 4th from 3p-8p at Schmid Hall located at 501 Hall Street, Orrville, OH, 44667. We invite anyone who may have stories and memories of Bruce to share during this Celebration of Life memorial.
In lieu of flowers, to honor his life and passions, we are asking for you to consider any memorial contributions be made to the Recovery Center of Medina County which is partnered with the Sérénité Restaurant and Culinary Institute. The Culinary Institute is funded by the Recovery Center and offers a distinctive and innovative approach to addiction recovery which encompasses an eight-month training program, teaching techniques of classic French cuisine and service, and includes Farm-to-Table as part of their curriculum.
Bruce was an avid supporter and believer in the organization whose mission is to help individuals in recovery through the passions of food, gardening, and recovery.
