Bruce Lee Spurling, 77, passed from this Earthly existence following a valiant, several year fight with Parkinson’s Disease. He now joins his longtime partner of 19 years, Diana Balog.
Bruce graduated as one of the last classes from Kent State High School in 1966. Following high school, he became an ambulance driver for Tinker’s Funeral Home and then worked at Kroger’s grocery store. In 1968, he joined the Navy Seabees and is a proud Vietnam Veteran. Upon his discharge, he returned to Kroger’s in Ravenna and had other various jobs, including construction, which became his life-long work. As part of that line of work, he taught all of his children the construction profession.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Margaret (Smallfield) Spurling.
He leaves his brothers, Byron, Paul (Nedra) and Scott Spurling; children, Chad (Kim), Jeremy, David (Lindsay) and Heather Mauk (Chris); grandchildren, Autumn Snyder (Michael), Bruce Spurling, Elizabeth Spurling (Brendon), Catherine Spurling (Tabitha), Conner and Lucas Spurling, and Cole, Kyle and Gavin Mauk; great grandchildren, Alliana, Alexis and Michael Snyder.
Bruce was the patriarch of our family and he will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace.
In honoring his wishes, Bruce will be cremated and visitation will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025 from 5:00-7:00PM at Bissler and Sons Funeral Home and Crematory, 628 W. Main St. Kent, OH 44240.
