Bruce Stephens Obituary

Bruce Lenz Stephens, born on September 9, 1957, in Franklin County, VA, entered his eternal home on August 20, 2025. He had been in ill health for several years, and recently lived in Lynchburg, VA.

Bruce was known for his sense of humor, his gentle spirit, and calm demeanor. His earthly journey was filled with compassion towards others, laughter, and a great appreciation of the natural world. Many who loved him will remember moments spent sitting under the stars listening to night sounds, camping and hiking as a Scout of Troop 137, or keenly observing critters such as hawks, eagles and skunks. He was an avid reader and enjoyed thoughtful conversation as well as debate.

Bruce grew up in Botetourt County, volunteered for Troutville Fire Department, and graduated from Lord Botetourt High School in 1975. After graduation, he trained as an electrician and ultimately earned his Master Electrician certification and worked in residential and commercial job sites in Ohio, Virginia and Hawaii. He especially enjoyed his adventures in Hawaii and appreciated simple gifts such as picking mangoes from a tree in the backyard.

Bruce is survived by his loving mother, Thelma L. Stephens, his brother Graham Stephens (Trina), his sister, Mary Stephens DePuy (Craig), as well as several nieces and nephews. Additionally, his memory will be treasured by his close friend, Angie Jones of Lynchburg, VA. He was predeceased in death by his father, Wesley Graham Stephens.

His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family and friends. Perhaps his life is best honored by spending a few moments of remembrance, in nature, enjoying God's beautiful wonders. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that contributions be made to the Troutville Volunteer Fire Department in Troutville, VA.

The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home in Daleville, Virginia from 11:30 – 12:30 on Saturday, September 6, 2025, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be shared with his family by visiting www.rader-funeralhome.com.
