Bruce W. Wiggett

Bruce Wiggett, age 77, passed away on Saturday June 22, 2024, surrounded by family at his Plymouth, NH home. Born October 2, 1946, Bruce was the son of the late Georgia (Hinkson) and Roger Wiggett of Rumney and later Plymouth, NH. 

Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Susan (Minickiello) Wiggett. Together they shared nearly 56 years of marriage, having met and married in Plymouth, NH. Bruce was the devoted father of Melissa (Wiggett) Lauria and her husband Ken Lauria of Myrtle Beach, SC and Bruce Wiggett, Jr. and his wife, Janette (Trickett) Wiggett of Plymouth, NH; cherished “Dow” to grandchildren Cabot Wiggett and Logan Wiggett of Plymouth, NH, Blake Lauria of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Keith Lauria and his wife, Lynn (Burnett) Lauria of Sanford, NC. He is also survived by brother Roger Wiggett and his wife, Carol, of KS, sister Susanne (Stanley) Morgan of TN. 

Raised on Stinson Lake in his early years, Bruce attended primary grade school in Rumney, NH and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1964. Bruce served in the United States Navy from 1966-1970, and following honorable discharge re-enrolled at Plymouth State College where he earned a degree in Business Administration/Accounting, graduating in 1974. While attending Plymouth State, Bruce was among the early members of the Psi Beta Gamma veteran’s fraternity and served as the Coordinator of Veteran Services. Between high school and college graduation, Bruce was part of the construction crew that built what is now Plymouth Regional High School and served as a volunteer for the Plymouth Fire Department. He went on to attend Northeastern University, earning a Master of Business Administration in 1978. 

Bruce dedicated his career in finance to the utilities industry. He worked for the Public Service Company of New Hampshire from 1974-1991, serving in a number of roles. In 1991 he began as Vice President of Finance for Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Company, later serving as President and CEO before retiring in 2005.

Throughout his career and lifetime, Bruce served in leadership roles within the community. He was active with Rotary Club of Brattleboro, VT and Plymouth, NH. He served as a member of the Board of Directors for several organizations including Granite State Credit Union, Manchester Little League East, Manchester YMCA, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, NH Electric Co-op, Plymouth State University Alumni Board, and Speare Memorial Hospital.

Bruce was a lifelong hobbyist, challenging himself to master many activities. He loved photography, needlepoint, calligraphy, rock and ice climbing, hiking and mountaineering- having climbed most of the 4000-foot mountains in NH in all months of the year. He was involved in competitive running and cycling, riding thousands of miles with friends. An avid skier and high-performance driver, he skied as many mountains and drove as many tracks throughout the US as he could. His hobbies and interests fueled a natural curiosity and commitment to learning that he wished to inspire in others. Over the years he instructed and coached skiing, rock and ice climbing, and performance driving. 

His passion for supporting others in their learning led Bruce back home to Plymouth and Plymouth State University, where he taught finance and accounting courses at the undergraduate and graduate level from 2007 until 2024. He was proud to help others realize what they can achieve with a PSU education.

In the months before his passing, Bruce reminded his family regularly of the full life he had lived. He will forever be loved and missed by his family and friends.

A celebration of life and memorial drive will be held at a future date, details to follow.
