Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory - Bayside Chapel on Aug. 2, 2024.
Bruno Gerard Codispoti was born February 1, 1938, in Suffern, New York, to Joseph Codispoti and Mary Cosentino Codispoti, both of whom predeceased him. He was raised in Brooklyn, New York, along with his brother Joseph (Joe) Codispoti (Marilyn), now of The Villages, Florida, and his sisters Mary and Theresa, both of whom predeceased him.
Bruno graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1956 and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1959. While in the Navy, he traveled to Peru, Ecuador, Turkey, Lebanon and, most notably, Cuba, at the time of Fidel Castro's takeover of that country.
After his naval service, Bruno married his first wife, Concetta Gangi Parra (deceased) and they raised four children together (in Bayshore, Long Island, New York and Newport News, Virginia): son Joseph Codispoti (Jocelyn) of Yorktown, Virginia; daughters Lisa Codispoti of Yorktown, Virginia; Maria Codispoti Carter (George) of Seaford, Virginia; and Rita Follett (Rick) of King William, Virginia.
Prior to Bruno having 48 years of loyal service with the Federal Aviation Administration at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York; Patrick Henry Field Airport (now Newport News International Airport) in Newport News, Virginia; and the radar site at the Norfolk Airport in Norfolk, Virginia, he worked with the New York City Subway System and Rotating Components in New York.
Bruno met his second wife, Lynn, in 2006. They married in 2007 and made their home in
Virginia Beach, Virginia. They enjoyed getting together with family and friends, talking over Lynn's homecooked meals, dining at several favorite local restaurants, and watching late night classic movies on the Turner Broadcasting Network.
In addition to his wife, children, and stepson, Bruno is also survived by three grandchildren: David Lyons (Maggie) of Silver Spring, Maryland, Jared Lyons (Bernadette) of Fairfax, Virginia and Julie Codispoti (Dylan) of Newport News, Virginia. Bruno's stepson, Paul Haboush of Hampton, Virginia, has many fond memories of Bruno and the time they spent together. Bruno took every opportunity to show off photos of his four great grandsons, Jackson, Philip, Ryan, and Nate.
All those who knew Bruno loved him. He was outgoing, kindhearted, and generous. He never hesitated to help a family member, friend, or neighbor in need. Bruno was, as his grandson would say, a true "MacGyver" in every sense of the word. His talents knew no limits and he could repurpose anything. Bruno will be dearly missed by all of us who knew and loved him.
