Leocadia Codispoti Obituary

Leocadia ("Codie") Codispoti, resident of Oxford, MD, passed away on Tuesday, September 30th, 2025, due to acute leukemia. She was the third born of six children to Irene and Mento Soponis of Minersville, PA on March 23, 1938.

Codie received her undergraduate degree in Library Science at Kutztown University and her Master's degree at Catholic University (Washington, DC). As a librarian, she worked in school, university, federal and public libraries. She also worked for Army Special Services libraries in Germany and Korea where she made life-long friends, and pursued her love of travel. Her great recall was often utilized by family and friends whenever they needed validation of dates or events.

Codie married Louis Codispoti, a chemical oceanographer from Brooklyn, NY, in 1968. Through this union she had a wonderful and interesting life as they moved and traveled across the United States and internationally. Codie was an active volunteer in several organizations that fostered conservation and humanitarian goals. She credited her volunteer activities to the example of her mother who was a selfless advocate for community causes and a Pennsylvania mother of the year. Codie was a people-person whose friendly personality made people immediately comfortable. She was happiest when hosting family and friends and baking cookies and cakes for them. She often joked that she was "born to work" and could be seen in and around her home and yard doing just that. She participated in adventures with her husband, Lou, that included flying their airplane and cruising the waters of Puget Sound, British Columbia and the coast of Maine in their sailboats.

Survivors include her husband, Lou, sisters Marianne and Annelle Soponis, brother Mento Soponis and nieces and nephews. Codie was preceded in death by her beloved sisters Irene Robb and Clare Soponis.

Codie requested that any memorial gifts be sent to organizations focused on humanitarian, environmental or animal welfare issues.

A life celebration for Codie will be held on November 8th from 12pm to 4pm at the VFW Post 5118, 355 Glebe Rd, Easton, MD 21601.
