Joan Altieri Obituary
She was born on October 13, 1940, to the late Charles and Claire (Henninger) Folwell. Joan will be lovingly remembered for her constant presence, her joyful Easter egg hunts filled with intricate clues, her boundless creative spirit, and the quiet, steady guidance she offered throughout the years.
Joan earned degrees in Education and in Library Science from Cedar Crest College and Kutztown University respectively. She found deep fulfillment working in the children's department at the Mary Meuser Memorial Library where her creativity brought stories and learning to life. From life-sized renaissance characters to paper mache castles, her whimsical displays enchanted and educated young readers.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph (Janice), James (Patricia), and Jeffrey; her grandchildren, Liana (Alexander Murray), Andrew, Evan, Maris, and Mary Kathleen; and her great-grandchildren, Adrian and Eden Murray.
She is also survived by her sisters Gail Folwell and Diane Fahler, and her former spouse Joseph G Altieri.
A private family service will be held at the Grandview Mausoleum, Allentown.

I was so sorry to see that Joan has passed. She and I worked together many years at Meuser Library in the children's department; it was the best time of my working years! Joan's creative artwork inspired us all and certainly made an impression on the children who passed through the summer reading programs at that time. Life-sized animals made from paper mache, a haunted dungeon - stories came alive! Joan was a delight to be around, and I was so fortunate to have her as a friend. She was as thoughtful as they come and funny too, (thinking of the little rubber snake that appeared in a gardening gift basket!)
My caring thoughts go out to all of her family members. She touched many lives and we are all the better for it. She will be greatly missed.
