February 11, 2026 Roy W. Buchmoyer, 85, of Whitehall, ran his last race. Raised in Allentown, PA, he was the son of the late Roy and Winifred ( Shields) Buchmoyer. He is survived by his wife Nancy, son Lance and daughter Heather Gower, wife of Fred all of Whitehall.

A 1958 graduate of Allentown High School he joined the US Navy and served 4 years as a signalman aboard the destroyer, USS Samuel N. Moore. Upon an honorable discharge he was employed by Lehigh Valley Dairy for 27 years in cultured products and served as their union steward for 22 years. He retired later from Air Products Maintenance after 13 years.

He was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing and competitive running. Regardless the weather he ran daily 10 miles and on weekend days 18-20 miles. He ran 35-40 races per year for 15 years from 5K to 19 marathons, often placing in his age group. He ran the Boston 3 times (having to qualify) with best time there 2:59:27. His other marathons included Philadelphia, Marine Corp., and New York. He enjoyed spending time on cruises and at the all-inclusive with his family and friends.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of one's choice in Roy's memory.

Roy and I were best buds through high school. He was a good guy then and I see he carried that personality throughout his life......R.I.P. until we meet again..

Roy, you failed to make your battle stations during general quarters. You stand relieved from your watch. A job well done fellow navy veteran. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The USS Samuel N. Moore is now on station, preparing for your final journey. The final volley has sounded and taps is about to begin, ending a successful career as a nation“s defender. Smooth sailing shipmate.
