Bryan was born to Shirley & Don Ferguson on August 6, 1970. Bryan was extraordinary from day one. Born with a condition called Tetralogy of Fallot, he faced his first heart surgery at the age of two. Even as a very young child, he overcame every challenge, growing to be an annoying little brother to Tracy. Bryan didn't understand fear, really. He was a wildman on his Big Wheel, trying stunts and testing the limits of his parents' nerves. He didn't acknowledge that he was "different" and shouldn't be tempting fate. But he'd already overcome fate, once, and won.
According to all the statistics, Bryan's life should have been short. He powered through countless surgeries, to correct this issue, or that one. While it seemed that life just kept throwing physical problems at him, he was actually beating back time and fate with each surgical procedure. He just didn't know that's what he was doing. No one did.
Bryan was passionate about the things he loved. He loved the movie Top Gun, finding heroes in the men who flew the planes, which were something else he loved. The Dukes of Hazzard television show, in his opinion, was one of the best shows ever, and should have received all of the awards! He loved OU and OSU! He just needed to make sure that whatever baseball hat he wore would match his chosen shirt perfectly! Bryan loved his animals, the last being his beloved cat, Daisy, who now lives with Tracy and Lenny, who love her like their own. Bryan was unable to ever have children of his own, but he loved to tell people how he "practically raised" his nephews, Tanner James and, Bryan's namesake, Jacob Matthew.
Bryan loved to help others. He volunteered every year at the Dalton Viner Memorial Foundation Golf Tournament at the T-Shirt table. And, boy, did he take that duty seriously!? He would not leave his station for any reason because he was worried he would miss a sale! He was dedicated to Suicide Prevention and took pride in helping the cause.
Bryan left this life on Christmas Eve, Tuesday, December 24th,,, 2024. His mother said that he took Santa's Sleigh to Heaven. His body was tired, and his soul was ready to rest. Bryan left his selfless mother, Shirley Ferguson and stepfather Darrell Cargal, his sisters, Tracy VanHorn, Shelee Key and Kim Martin and his brother, Kenneth Breshears along with his nephews, Tanner James Powell, Jacob Matthew Powell, Brauk Breshears, Colton Key, and niece Brooklynn Breshears, to remember the Christmas of 2023, where Bryan laughed and truly enjoyed the company of his family. It was the best Christmas ever. His father, James Donald Ferguson, and grandparents, Lester and Violet Jarman went before him, and have been waiting patiently for him.
Bryan met his father and grandparents at the gates of heaven, in a matching shirt and hat, took a deep breath and, feeling no pain, walked steadily, on strong legs, into eternity.
