Mr. Bryan Hugh Matthews, 48, of Lillington passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at his home. He was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Jeffrey and Dianna Baker Matthews.
Bryan served as a firefighter with Summerville-Bunnlevel Fire and Rescue for over 20 years. He enjoyed fishing and talking about history--especially WWII. You could usually find him with a mello yello in one hand and a marlboro red cigarette in the other. He had a big heart and loved his family. We are so heartbroken with the loss of Bryan but are comforted knowing he is with his Mama and Daddy and is pain free. The world is a little less bright without Bryan's smile.
Bryan is survived by his sons, Austin Matthews and wife, Rocel of Lillington, Anthony Matthews of Fuquay-Varina; grandson, Stetson Matthews; brother, Jason Matthews and wife, Connie of Lillington; nephews, Cole and Seth Matthews; niece, Charlotte Matthews; uncle, Stuart Lee Matthews of Lillington; cousin, Nathan Matthews of Winnabow.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:45 PM on Saturday January 18, 2025 at O'Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Westview Cemetery in Lillington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Carolina Waterfowl Rescue and Sanctuary, 5403 Poplin Road, Indian Trail, NC 28079 or Doxie by Proxy Dachshund Rescue, PO Box 9671, Greensboro, NC 27429.
