Bryan Lee Mothes, 63, of rural Sylvia, went to be with his heavenly Father, May 25, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. He was born on January 10, 1962, at Stafford Hospital, Stafford, KS, to John Frederick and Nan Earl (Floyd) Mothes.
Bryan graduated from Fairfield High School and Garden City Community College with an associates degree in agriculture. Shortly after his graduation, Bryan became a Stafford County sheriff's deputy, then a Reno County sheriff's deputy on February 29, 1988. In 1991, Bryan started the Firearm Response Unit (FRU). On June 26, 1993, he was promoted to patrol sergeant. Bryan earned the title of firearm range master, September 1, 1995. He retired after over 25 years of service, on March 13, 2011, from the Reno County Sheriff's Department. Bryan enjoyed travelling to the deserts, as well as the mountains in Colorado, where he loved to ride his ATV and climb mountains. Bryan was a rancher and raised Longhorns and Angus-Crosses up until October of 2024. He was a member of First Congregational Church, Hutchinson, as well as a Deacon for the past two years. Anyone who knew Bryan appreciated his strong and steadfast faith and love of the Lord. His unwavering faith was always at the forefront of his relationships with others.
On September 20, 1991, he married Tamara "Tami" Kay, at Temple Baptist Church, Hutchinson.
Bryan is survived by: wife of almost 34 years, Tami Mothes; children, Jessica (Jason) Sanders of Pratt, Leandra (David O'Neil) Bateman of Hutchinson, Tara (Kenneth) Nazarian of New Hampshire, Russell Mothes of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Syler, Brayton, Bailey, Harley, Logan, Bentlee, Basil; mother, Nan Mothes of Cape Girardeau, MO; sisters, Charlotte (Daniel) Paulsen of Romania, Cheryl (Rick Hetzel) Mothes of Cape Girardeau, MO; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Mothes.
Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at First Congregational Church, 3410 N. Plum, Hutchinson, with his friend, Pastor Matt Stafford, officiating. Private family burial will take place at a later date in the Hayes Township Cemetery, rural Sylvia. Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, at Elliott Mortuary.
Per Bryan's wishes, in lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Reno County Food Bank, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
