Burchell Dewayne "Shew" Shewmaker, 72, husband of Fifty One Years to Joyce Snipes Shewmaker, died Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born April 17, 1953 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Curtis Shootie Patterson and Elizabeth Jewell Shewmaker. He had worked at Spring Hill Cemetery for twelve years and he loved fishing, squirrel hunting, and watching UK Basketball.
Survivors other than his wife include three daughters: Chestina (Paul) Jensen, Serena (Erick) Barkman, and Joy (John) Rector all of Harrodsburg; one brother James Allen (Kathy) Lewis of Versailles, one sister Leticia Blacketer of Harrodsburg; eight grandchildren: Cody and Clayton Herring, Bre'z (Cody) Sadler, Blake and Kru'z Smith, Kali-Bray Barkman, and Westin and Ali Rector; one great grandchild Phoenix Sadler and several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by one son Burchell Dewayne Shewmaker, Jr., one brother Eugene Shewmaker, and one sister Vicki Warner.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lynn Releford officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with grandsons Cody, Clay, Blake, Kru'z, Westin and son-in-law John Rector serving as active pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters Bre'z, Ali, Kali-Bray, Phoenix, and cousins Ronnie, Red, Larry, Mike, and Sac Hume.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday and after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
