Burton "Burt" Charles Wedow, 82 of Land O' Lakes, passed away early in the morning on January 6, 2024 while in Compasses Care at Rennes Health and Rehab in Rhinelander. He was born in Chicago, IL on August 26, 1941, son of the late Robert and Marie (Deutscher) Wedow. He married Gloria (Gunnarson) on September 22, 1961, also in Chicago, IL.
He graduated from Lane Technical High School, Chicago and later earned a degree in drafting. This led to training, apprenticeship and journeyman for Burt to begin working as an ornamental ironworker for Local 63 in Chicago. He earned his 60 year pin as a union member. He left his artistic designs on many commercial building projects across the greater Chicago area. His work ethic was second to none.
Burton was also a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge in both IL, Logan Square Masonic Lodge #891 and WI, Eagle River Masonic Lodge #248. He was a Past Master of Logan Square Lodge #891. Burt was also a member of the Order of Eastern Stars, Eagle Chapter #218, where he was a Past Patron. He's remembered also as "Dad Wedow" when he served as a Guardian for Eagle River Job's Daughters Bethel #47. Mr. Wedow moved his family from Chicago to Land O' Lakes in 1978, but continued his employment in Chicago, driving 720 miles round trip every weekend. Once he retired, he joined his wife in Land O' Lakes. They enjoyed traveling together, especially a train trip in Alaska. As a Lionel Train enthusiast, Burt and Gloria created a room within their home just for a full scale working model. Some days he would remain in the train room for hours on end tinkering, creating and arranging. Burton's other interests included bowling, watching the Chicago Cubs, and feeding the ducks on the island he built just for them.
Survivors of this family loving man include his wife, Gloria, of 62 years, his son Bradley (Irvine) Wedow, Land O' Lakes, daughter Gayle (Steven) Daniel, Rhinelander and son Bryan (Peggy) Wedow,
Kronenwetter, WI. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and five great-children, his brother, William (Debbie) Wedow,
Schaumburg, IL along with three nephews, a niece, and several cousins.
Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 15, 10:00 at Ely Memorial Church, Land O' Lakes. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 officiated by Pastor Timothy Miller. A Masonic service will follow. Guests are welcome to join the family for a luncheon at the church.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Rennes Health and Rehab along with Compasses Care for their dedication and attention to their husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, grandfather and great grandfather.
