Buster Erwin Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

James Ralph "Buster" Erwin, 75, of Crothersville, IN, passed away peacefully at his home on October 1, 2025. He was born on April 10, 1950, at Scottsburg Hospital, the son of Miles and Betty (Tucker) Erwin, who preceded him in death.

Buster was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Crothersville, IN. He also served his community as a member of the former Lions Club of Crothersville and as a charter member of the Crothersville Jaycees. His strong work ethic was evident throughout his life: he worked at American Can Association from 1970 to 1978, drove a school bus for Crothersville schools until 2010, and was a mechanic at the Ford Garage from 1963 to 1975. He proudly owned and operated Erwin's Car Care Center and wrecker service from 1975 until 2009, and later drove for Majesty Trucking of Scottsburg from 2010 until his retirement in 2024.

Community service was dear to him. He was a dedicated fireman and served as fire chief in Crothersville for 25 years. He also enjoyed racing alongside his son Bradley and cherished the time they spent together on and off the track.

Survivors include his companion of 19 years, Louise McAllister; three children, Bradley (Michelle) Erwin of Marysville, IN, Tricia (Russell Phegley) Brown of Hayden, IN, and Jill Erwin of Jeffersonville, IN; two grandchildren, Kara Erwin and Trey Brown; two great-grandchildren, Ryker Brown and Huxley Hostetler; and one sister, Pat Combs of Crothersville, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Jason Brown.

Pastor David Schill will conduct funeral services on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory in Crothersville, IN, with a graveside service to follow at Crothersville Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the service time, all at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory in Crothersville, IN.

Memorial donations in honor of Buster may be made to the Crothersville FFA.
