Byron M. Smith Jr. (Sonny), passed away on Monday October 31, 2022. He was born at home in Palmetto, Florida on August 17, 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents, B.M. Smith Sr. and Jewel S. Smith.
He is survived by his significant other and best friend, Delores Thiers, also by his daughter; Jackie Voss and granddaughter Amber Voss; son Byron M. Smith III (Patsy), granddaughter Shelby Smith, grandson, Michael Smith and great grandsons Kolton and Mason Smith. He is also survived by his sisters; Betsy Dort of Largo and Margaret Preston (Bob) of Bradenton.
He was the First Master Counselor of New Palmetto DeMolay Chapter in 1956. At the end of the year he was awarded the Chevalier degree, the highest award for active DeMolay.
He graduated from Manatee County High School in 1957 and attended the University of Florida. He worked in the Agricultural field and was employed 21 years with Asgrow Florida Company, a subsidiary of the Upjohn company and attended the "Upjohn Sales Academy" with awards five times.
He was elected to the Palmetto City council for three terms.
As a Member of the First United Methodist of Palmetto, Byron served in several compacities over the years.
