Calvin "Chester" E. Horsfall

Calvin “Chester” Eugene Horsfall age 96 passed away on July 11, 2025. He was born on October 1, 1928, in Bloomington, WI to parents, Roy and Pearl (Ball) Horsfall. He was the second youngest of 11 children.

In January 1951, Calvin was drafted into the United States Army and served his country for two years as part of the 11th Airborne during the time of the Korean War. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post #148 in Bloomington. When he returned from the Army, he worked for Economy Feed Mill and later became a Moormans feed salesman.

On March 16, 1963, he married Hannahmarie (Webb) at the Bloomington Methodist Church, and they made Bloomington their lifetime home. They raised two daughters, Sally Hanson and Linda (Carl) Ihm and welcomed six grandchildren. His family has expanded to include eight great-grandchildren. Grandpa Chester had a big heart and strong love for his family especially when they came to visit so he could take them to Ma’s Bakery. Most people remember him as the friendly, tall gentleman with a walking stick and rolled up pants!

Calvin was a huge sports fan, especially of the Bloomington Bluejays and loved watching his daughters as well as other athletes. Another set of great sports memories was watching his grandsons play football for the Lancaster Flying Arrows. The Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers were teams he also enjoyed watching, but his lifetime love was watching the Chicago Cubs, especially when his two daughters and six grandchildren accompanied him to Wrigley Field, and when the Cubs won the World Series in 2016.

Calvin is survived by his two daughters, six grandchildren, Steve (Chelsey), Dan (Holly), Matt (Brooke), Rachel (Jacob) Kruser, Jacob, and Dana Hanson and eight (soon to be nine) great-grandchildren along with one brother, Paul (Maxine) Horsfall and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, five brothers and four sisters along with their spouses: David, Ralph, Harold, James, Robert, and Grace Martin, Marion Manion, Margaret Taft, and Lela (Johnson) Caygill.

Funeral services will be held at Bloomington Methodist Church on Friday, July 18, 2025, at 11:00 am with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington and on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the church. Burial with military honors will be at Little Grant Cemetery, Little Grant Township. Martin Schwartz Funeral Homes & Crematory in Bloomington is assisting the family.
