Candace Volkert

1958 - 2026

Northfield - Candace Verlaine Volkert of Northfield, Minnesota, passed away in her home on February 12th, surrounded by her family, at the age of 68. She was born on January 12th, 1958, to parents Corley and Verone Mortenson in Saint Paul, MN. The family moved to Randolph, MN, when Candace was 3 years old, and they remained there throughout her childhood.

Candace attended Randolph schools, where she met her husband, Lee Volkert, at the age of 13. The couple married on August 28th, 1976, and moved to Northfield, MN.

Candace was a wonderful mother who took great pride in watching her children grow and begin families of their own. Her grandchildren meant the world to her and brought her immense joy.

Candace had beautiful taste and a love for shopping - if you visited a T.J. Maxx in the area, there was a good chance you'd see her there. She enjoyed cocktails with friends and cherished her time spent in Florida.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Corley and Verone Mortenson of Cannon Falls, MN.

Candace is survived by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Lee Volkert of Northfield, MN; her daughter Chelsey Volkert (Chris Bennett) of Burnsville, MN; her son Brighton Volkert (Angie) of New Market, MN; her grandchildren Madelyn and Dillinger Volkert and Tommy and Vivian Bennett; and her brother Scott Mortenson (Kim) of Randolph, MN.

The family is honoring Candace's wishes with a private family memorial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests no donations and simply asks that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
