Canio V. Codella
Canio (Ken) Codella of Purchase, New York passed away peacefully on December 23, 2022. He was born on April 4, 1927, in White Plains, New York to the late Canio and Lucia (Cialeo) Codella. The Codella Family ran The Westchester Diner on Westchester Avenue in White Plains for many years.
He graduated from White Plains High School. Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Europe. When he returned home, he attended and graduated from Iona College. His career included positions at CBS Broadcasting, Barnes Engineering and Loral Electronic Systems.
Canio was a devoted family man with many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed all family and social events especially time spent with his grandchildren. People gravitated to his pleasant personality and caring nature. He had a great love of music and at an early age he started playing the accordion. He and his friends formed a band (The Serenaders) where they played at numerous weddings and events for over forty years. Canio enjoyed watching all sports. He was an avid New York Rangers and Mets fan and shared that love with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening including growing a vegetable garden every year. He stayed active by bike riding. In later years he enjoyed swimming at the Rye "Y" with old friends and new.
Canio is predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years Dolores (Barrego). He is survived by his two daughters Christine Mignone (Rob Fraioli) Judy Kelly (Joe Kelly). Five grandchildren Paul Michael Mignone, Danielle Mignone, Elena Mignone, Brian Kelly and Taylor Kelly. He is also survived by his two sisters Jennie Tompkins and Lucy Codella along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Frank Codella and nephew Frankie Codella.
Visitation will be at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home, White Plains, New York
Thursday, December 29, 2022, 2:00pm-4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm
A Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Anthony of Padua, West Harrison, New York on Friday, December 30, 2022, at 10:00 am
