Carl Basto, age 84, longtime Negaunee resident, passed away on February 18, 2025 at his home.
Carl was born May 5, 1940 to Eino and Ruth (Keckinen) Basto. He married Fay Korby on June 20, 1959 and together they raised one son, Brian. Carl worked as a civilian butcher at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base until his retirement in 1993.
Carl enjoyed talking with people around the world as a ham radio operator, cheering for the Detroit Red Wings and Lions, and trips around the U.P. delivering newspapers with his wife and son in the van with him. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Allen, his wife of 60 years, Fay (Korby) Basto, his son, Brian Basto, and his brother, Allen. He is survived by his niece and caretakers, Lisa (Gary Emanuelson) Basto, of Negaunee.
The family would like to thank UP Home Health & Hospice for their loving care provided.
Honoring Carl's wishes, cremation will take place and no public services will be held. His ashes will be spread with Fay's and Brian's for eternity.
