Carl Ray Chambers passed from earth into Heaven on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at his home. He was 69 years old. Carl was born February 18, 1952, in Jonesboro to Roy and Adeline Chambers. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Orval Chambers, Donald Chambers, Doyle Chambers and sister Marvalene Hurst. Carl is also preceded in death by his inlaws Hugh and Wilma Heath.
Carl is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Terry Heath Chambers. They were high school sweethearts and had been together since they were 16 and 14 years old. He is also survived by two daughters, Emily Adair (James) and Hannah Chambers (Alison Puryear), grandson Quinn Adair and granddaughter Ivy Adair. Carl is survived by two sisters, Marilyn Adams and Ruth Robinson (Robert), as well as many nephews, nieces and friends.
Carl graduated from Nettleton High School in 1971. He was involved in several clubs and organizations. He played football and was a decorated basketball player. Basketball was always a huge part of his life. Coaching and watching both of his girls play for the Raiders was one of his greatest joys. In recent years he enjoyed watching his grandson, Quinn, play football for the Raiders as well. Carl was an avid supporter of the Arkansas State Redwolves, the Arkansas Razorbacks, and the Miami Dolphins. He loved to remind everyone that the'72 Dolphins are the only NFL team to go undefeated all the way from pre-season through the Super Bowl.
Carl and Terry married on July 28, 1978, and in the fall of 1979 he began farming with his father-in-law, Hugh Heath, and his brother-in-law, Max Render, Carl enjoyed farming for 27 years. Harvest was his favorite time of year and driving the combine to harvest rice and soybeans brought him great joy and pride. After retiring from farming in 2006, Carl worked for the Craighead County Road Department. He very much enjoyed his years there and made some lifelong friends. He retired in 2018.
Carl was a member of Nettleton Baptist Church. He served as a Sunday school teacher and a deacon in years passed. Before joining NBC Carl was a member of Cottage Home Baptist Church. He served in many capacities there as well from deacon, Sunday school teacher, worship leader and youth director. Carl's fun and outgoing personality made him perfect for working with kids and teens. He organized many trips, events, and even puppet ministry performances over the years.
Carl was honored to serve on the Nettleton School Board from 2002 through 2018. He took great pride in working with administrators and teachers to make Nettleton the best school possible. #raiderprideforever.
