Carl Christopher Couturier, 85, passed away on August 12, 2025 at his home in Traverse City, Michigan. Born on August 18, 1939, in Traverse City, Carl was the beloved husband of Anna (Foglia) Couturier, a devoted father to 9 children, and son of the late Leon and Edith (Belanger) Couturier.

Carl was a man of many talents and interests. He was a faithful husband and an involved father, known for his hard work. His dedication to his family was unwavering, and he took great joy in spending time with his extended family. The Couturier home was a place of many wonderful gatherings where lifelong memories were made.

In his early years, Carl attended Immaculate Conception School and Traverse City Central High School. Served as an altar boy. He went on to serve in the United States Navy, where he excelled in his role as a cryptologist in the Department of Intelligence. Stationed in Italy, it was there that he met the love of his life, Anna Foglia. Their bond grew as they played cards together and shared delicious meals, with Anna's lasagna capturing Carl's heart.

After being medically discharged from the Navy, Carl pursued his passion for building homes for his family. His skill and knowledge were not only evident in his craftsmanship but also in his ability to pass on his expertise to his children, allowing them to learn and grow with his guidance.

Apart from his career, Carl taught CCD classes, was a lector at church, and a eucharistic minister. His hobbies included working with his hands and fixing things. He instilled these skills in his children, encouraging them to figure things out on their own while providing gentle support. His faith was a cornerstone of his life and he cherished his relationship with the Lord.

Carl will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him: his wife of 64 years, Anna Couturier; children, Peggy (Tom) French, Adam,{ Kathy} Couturier, Dominic (Nazarette) Couturier, Emily (Brian) Majerczyk, Juliette (Billy) Brown, Mary (Ben) Lannin, and Carl (Magda) Couturier; and 40 grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by his sons, Aaron and Leon Couturier, and his parents, Leon and Edith Couturier.

A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025 at 11 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City, with Rev. Anthony Citro presiding. Visitation will begin at 10 am at the church. Carl will be laid to rest with military honors at St. Michael's Cemetery in Suttons Bay.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Food Pantry, Thrive Medical Clinic, or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for a Mass in Carl's name.
