Carl Farrell, Sr. Obituary
Obituary for Carl F. Farrell, Sr. (1943-2024)
Carl Francis Farrell, Sr., age 81, of Swedesburg, known to many as Frank, passed away peacefully at home, with loving family at his bedside on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Born in Philadelphia, Carl was the son of the late William Farrell and the late Rose (nee McFlynn) Farrell, the devoted husband, since August 23, 1969, of the late Lorraine A. (nee Pierce) Farrell who passed August 27, 2022 and the loving father of Colleen Ann Bale (Mark) of King of Prussia and Carl F. Farrell, Jr. (Christina) of Swedesburg. In addition, Carl is survived by his cherished grandsons, Christopher Epps, Chase Epps and Brandon Pearson, his beloved granddaughter-in-law Kayla, his faithful companion "Sugar", who was always by his side and his brother William Farrell (Nancy). Sadly, Carl's other siblings all predeceased him, the late Mina Woods (the late Art), the late Charlotte Phillips, the late Richard Farrell (the late Gloria), the late Ron Farrell (Loretta) and the late John Farrell.
Carl proudly enlisted in The U.S. Navy in July of 1961, serving until July of 1965 and earning the rank of Fireman (E-3) and then in March of 1968, he enlisted in The U.S. Marine Corps, serving until October of 1969, specializing as a rifleman, and receiving the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. After getting his Honorable Discharge, Carl worked for 30 years in Forklift Maintenance for Fleming Foods. He also became an EMT, serving with Good Will Fire Company and then Lafayette Ambulance. Mr. Farrell was a long time member of Sacred Heart Church and a life member of their Holy Name Society. He enjoyed camping & fishing with family, especially his grandchildren, doing puzzles, gardening, watching the Phillies, Eagles and the local Little League teams and building as well as flying model air planes. He will surely be missed by many.
Relatives and friends are invited to Swedesburg Volunteer Fire Company, 310 Jefferson Street, Swedesburg, PA 19405, on Saturday, August 10, 2024, where his family will greet guests in the Social Hall from 10 a.m. until his Memorial Service begins at 11 a.m. There will be a funeral luncheon following the service. As per Carl's request, his ashes will be taken to the Pacific Ocean to be scattered at sea by The Navy. The family would appreciate Memorial Donations to Southeastern Veterans' Center, 1 Veterans Drive, Spring City, PA 19475, 610-948-2400. Arrangements are by The Bernard S. Gutkowski Funeral Home, Swedesburg, Keith J. Murphy, F.D., 610-275-6385, www.gutkowskifuneralhome.com
