Mr. Carl W. Lott, Jr. was called home into God's Holy Kingdom on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. He was the only child, born July 14, 1959, to the late Carl Lott, Sr. and Evelyn Lott in
St. Louis, Missouri.
He was preceded in his death by his parents; his grandparents; Willian and Gertrude Hardin; and aunt and uncle, Robert and Helena Sloan.
Carl attended Charles Sumner High School in
St. Louis, Missouri and graduated in 1977. Soon after, he began life in
Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
He went on to attend college at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in which he received a 4 year music scholarship playing the trumpet in the UAPB Marching Band. He graduated Cum Laude in 1981 with a bachelor's degree. After graduating, he began his career in Music Education at Southeast Junior High School from 1981-1984 and Dial Junior High School from 1984-1985. He became the band director for the Pine Bluff High School Marching Band in 1985 where he spent 28 years until retirement.
He was affiliated with numerous organizations to include Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Masonic Lodge, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America.
Carl initiated several organizations and traditions making strong efforts to keep those alive. Many of those included the creation of the first pep band to perform at the PBHS basketball home games, the implementation of the Southeast Middle School beginning band performance at a Christmas Parade, and the establishment of the first PBHS Jazz Band in 1994 with 22 members. He hosted many PBHS Band Banquets, Spring Concerts, and rewarding summer vacations to historical sites in Missouri, Texas, Florida, and Georgia for his PBHS band students. He even helped students to transition into college by personally driving them and helping with the enrollment process.
He loved the community and was a faithful member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Chairman of the Deacon Board, Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent, and overseer of the music engineering department of the church.
Carl was married to the love of his life, Brenda Eddington, on August 13, 1983. To this union was born one daughter, Rachel.
He enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, watching his favorite television show (Perry Mason), and listening to gospel music. He was known for writing poetry for ceremonial events.
To cherish the unforgettable memories of his life he leaves his wife of 40 years, Brenda Lott; daughter, Rachel (Ryan) Berry; granddaughter, Addilynn Berry; cousins, Linda Woodard and Laura "Cookie" Tyson; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
