Carl N. Mayer

Carl Nicholas Conrad Mayer of Farmington Hills passed from this life on February 19th, 2023.
He was born April 10, 1930 at Cottage Hospital in Grosse Pointe, the son of the late Elizabeth and Nicholas Mayer.
He graduated from Cass Technical High School and then went on to Wayne University and CCS before starting at GM Styling as a clay modeler on Cadillac Instrument Panels, eventually working his way onto the Buick Studio Design Team. From there he went to work for Silver's, and his love for interior design allowed him to start his own business, Universal Interiors, in the late 60's later to become Thomas Mayer Interiors through the early 80's. After that, Carl became a manufacturer's rep for Howe and Invincible office furniture that made him a staple in the industry. A love of automobiles fuelled much of Carl's life since childhood and continued over the last couple of decades as a volunteer worker for both the Concours d'Elegance and Eyes on Design automobile shows in the Detroit area.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret, his daughter Amy (Russell), his son Thomas and his grandchildren, Phoebe, and Ian, his sister Marlene Harle (Kenneth) and his niece and nephew, Sabrina and Jonathan.
The celebration of his life will be at the funeral home, Saturday, April 15, 11 am, his family will greet friends beginning at 10 am.
