Carl Elwood Midgett of Belgrade, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday, November 9, 2025, having reached the age of 87. Elwood, as many knew him, was born on October 31, 1938, in Quaker, Missouri, a son of the late Marvin Midgett and Hazel (Turnbough) Midgett.
Elwood was united in marriage to the love of his life, Doris Vineyard, on September 7, 1957, in Wortham, Missouri. Together, they shared 67 wonderful years filled with laughter, love, and countless cherished memories.
Elwood was a hard worker all of his life, setting an example of strong work ethic to provide for his family. Throughout his career, he held many positions, including at Cass Bank and Trust of St. Louis, McDonnell Douglas, the Tiff Mill, Pea Ridge Mines, Trenice Yount Trucking, and Sullivan Asphalt. Elwood was also a good mechanic.
He was passionate about the outdoors and hunting, especially his annual trip to John’s Creek Deer Camp with his sons and family. He also enjoyed camping with his family at Sutton’s Bluff, Cedar Creek, Palmer, Old Greenville and many other places. Elwood took great pride in his property near Council Bluff, known as the “Ponderosa,” dedicating countless hours of hard work to maintain and improve it.
Elwood is survived by his five children: Pamela Marie (Steve) Loughary, Patricia Sue (Mark) Maledy, Peter Lynn (Angie) Midgett, Phillip John (Kim) Midgett, and Paul Franklin (Mary Jo) Midgett; twelve grandchildren: Cory (Shanna) Loughary, Cody (Julie) Loughary, Nathan Loughary, Andrew (Alli) Maledy, Laura Maledy, Preston Midgett and Christina, Kelsey Midgett and Matt, Megan (Jimmy) Barron, Morgan (Jackson) Conaway, Logan (Lyndsey) Midgett, Lance Midgett, and Katie (Alex) Morgan; and eighteen great-grandchildren: Kiana and Justin, Keeton and fiancée Maliyah, Keller, Carson, Carlie, Easton, Mavery, Kinsley, Emma, Allie, Abigail, Gabriel, Allyson, Myles, Mason, Mia, Baker, Benson, Laynie, and Jonah. He is also survived by his dear sister, Nelda (Dwain “Nunny”) Phelps, sister-in-law, Luella Hardman; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Elwood was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Hazel Midgett; his beloved wife, Doris Midgett; his sister, Bonnie Potthast and her husband, Don; his father- and mother-in-law, Ivan and Laura Vineyard.
A time of visitation to honor Elwood will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 from 10 AM until the time of his Funeral Service at 1 PM, held at DeClue Funeral Home. Pastor Mike Winick will be officiating his service. Interment and final prayers will be held at Caledonia Methodist Cemetery. Elwood's funeral arrangements were respectfully entrusted to the care and direction of DeClue Funeral Home.
