Carl Randy Mills, 61, died Sunday, August 13, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi. The funeral will be Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Chase Owen officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12:00 noon in West Hall of Waller Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service in Anchor Baptist Church Cemetery.
Randy was born on February 11, 1962, in Marks, MS to Charles William Mills and Carolyn Sue Chaney. He worked as a machine operator for Caterpiller until his retirement, at which point he began working with his son Michael, at his company, Mills Pluming and Electric. Randy was an avid outdoorsman, who could spend an entire morning in the deer stand or a whole day at the lake fishing. If he was away from home, chances are you'd find him at the camper that he set up on his grandparent's land on the Coldwater River in Crowder, MS. No place brought him peace quite like the "Old Place", and he kept the camper set up there year-round so he could visit whenever he pleased. The land was filled with old memories from his childhood and new memories he had made with his own children. Each Sunday of football season, Randy cheered on his beloved New England Patriots, especially his favorite player, Tom Brady. He and his wife, Chris, both looked forward to their daily walks together with their beloved corgi, Rip. When the weather was right, he would take his Harley Davidson out for a ride. No matter the destination, Randy felt like the best version of himself when he was riding. Family time was deeply important to Randy. He was affectionately known as "Pea Poppa" to his many grandchildren, and made sure he was present in their lives and the lives of his children. Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Sue Chaney and daughter, Joy Michelle Mills Henry.
Randy is survived by his wife, Chris Ward Mills of Oxford, MS; his father and step-mother, Charles and Jean Mills of Oakland, MS; sons, Michael Mills and his fiancé, Reace Grose of Oxford, MS and Shane Mills and his fiancé, Danielle Sibley of Batesville, MS; sister, Cathy Chandler and her husband, Frankie of Grenada, MS; brother, Ricky Mills and his wife, Renee of Crowder, MS; 12 grandchildren, Easton, Jarett, Emma, Ainsley, Emery, Knox, Harper, Ryder, Mila, Raleigh, Charli-Faye, Wiley, and one on the way.
Expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Randy's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to LeBonheur Children's Hospital, 848 Adams Avenue, Memphis, TN 38103.
