Carl Quist Obituary

Published by Legacy from Jul. 27 to Jul. 28, 2025.
Carl David Quist, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Friday, July 25th. He was born January 31st, 1941, in Salt Lake City to Carl and Helen Quist.
He was an avid learner and explorer and loved growing up in the Forest Dale and Holladay areas. He served an LDS mission in Brazil. In 1967, he married his sweetheart Diane in the Salt Lake City Temple, and they celebrated 58 years of marriage this year.
Dave was always up for adventure, and his life was full of it. Early on, he loved backpacking and fishing in the Uintas with his cousins and joined the Brighton Ski Patrol. He served on the avalanche search and rescue team for the Cottonwood Canyons and was also a volunteer firefighter for South Salt Lake.
He later found a great love for running and became an avid marathoner. Some of his favorite events included the St. George Marathon, the Deseret News Marathon, and the Pony Express 50-Miler. He was a member of the Salt Lake Track Club and organized the Country Mile races in Riverton.
He later became a Boy Scout leader and dedicated countless hours to planning and organizing camps and helping boys advance through the ranks toward Eagle Scout. He served in the Army and National Guard for many years as a Portuguese linguist.
He was a lifelong learner who enjoyed earning his Master Gardener certification and putting his skills to use in his yard. He loved serving in the temple as a baptistry worker. As a bishop in Tooele, he worked tirelessly to represent and serve those in his ward.
He loved his grandkids and found great joy in supporting them in all their activities. Above all, he loved serving others. He found great satisfaction and purpose in showing love to everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter Alexis. He is survived by his wife Diane; his children Erik (Carolin), Kirstin (Kurt), Kyle (Mary), and Peter; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held August 1st at 1:00 PM at the LDS chapel located at 8539 S 2200 W in West Jordan. A viewing will be held the night before from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and again at 12:00 PM the day of the service. Interment will be at Elysian Burial Gardens at 1075 E 4580 S in Millcreek.
In lieu of flowers, Dave requested that donations be made to the Huntsman Cancer Institute, Primary Children's Hospital, or the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake.
